Explanation:
A more recent version may use new algorithms. Even the same function can rely upon newer algorithms.
Opening more recent data with an older version would risk displaying geometry incorrectly, since the older version doesn't understand the newer algorithms.
The only possibility to display data created with a more recent version is via dumb geometry.
Methods:
1) Tools -> Utility-> DownwardCompatibility
2) With the more recent version save the part as .model/.igs/.step. Then open the part in the older version and save as CATPart.
